The BMW X1 is so good to drive you are sure to forget that you are behind the wheel of a medium sized family SUV. The Twin Turbo 2 litre engine combined with the sophisticated dual clutch 8 speed automatic box are excellent. Smooth power delivery right from low engine speeds combined with silky smooth shifts between the gears makes for an enjoyable, comfortable and fuss-free driving experience. The X1 goes from 0-100km/h in just 7.6 seconds. The Twin-Turbo engine can be economical and with some careful driving a combined fuel economy figure as low as 6.2 litre per 100km is achievable. Using a sporty design, BMW has used quality materials throughout. The interior is spacious with a host of luxury features and the boot holds 505 litres of baggage, while 1550 litres become available with the seats folded flat. The BMW X1 is ultimately for those who rank performance, comfort and refinement highly, but if space and versatility is what you are after, you could do better looking elsewhere. *The vehicle was supplied to us by Leo Haese BMW Centurion.
